Frederick Stadler Art Fred Art Collage

Hello and welcome to Frederick Stadler Art: a blog for art, music, math, anagrams and poetry, with no views. Only you and the FBI have seen this content. My name is Frederick Anton Scott Stadler, I live in Toronto, and I enjoy painting with acrylic paints and watercolour pencils. These works were done by myself on canvas or artist paper, and I am a self-taught artist. If you wish to listen to any of my improvised electric piano playing, please YouTube search for: Frederick Stadler. I am also a person with schizophrenia living in subsidized housing. I have sold many paintings, given many as gifts, and kept many for myself.

I would like to start by saying that anyone in the world has my full permission to market all art from this blog for their own profit. All I ask is that you donate a minimum of 10% of all profits made from sales to any reputable charity of your choice. You could make T-shirts, print photos, etc. Just take a ‘print screen’ of this statement on my blog for your references, and I will fully agree and comply with this statement at all times. This was typed by Frederick Stadler. ❀

Please note that there are links at the top of the blog you can click on to get to other sections of the blog. In total, this blog has pictures of 124 of my paintings, and 2 from a late friend, Malcolm Sutherland, and 1 from a friend, Darue. These artworks were painted with quality acrylic paints: mostly Golden brand and Amsterdam brand or Faber-Castell watercolour pencils. If a painting does not specify the medium, it was done with acrylics. I sometimes mix white and black acrylic paints with my watercolour pencil pieces, for interesting effects.

See the “About Me” section for my Email address if you wish to contact me. A typical acrylic painting costs me around $40 to make in supplies, and a watercolour pencil piece costs me around $10 to make.

A description of paint terminology: Some paints are “iridescent” meaning they shine in light, like gold and silver. Pearl is a whiter version of silver. Some paints are “interference” meaning they show their colour much better when light shines on a direct path from the source, to the paints, to your eye. (In more technical terms: interference paints show their shiny colours when seen at an angle of “specular reflection”. This means that if the painting was a mirror, you’d see them best if you could see the light source in the mirror reflection from your viewpoint.) Also, better interference colours show when painted on a darker background. Otherwise they are fairly white and transparent. Interference colours can be quite beautiful, and they are quite shiny as well, like the iridescents! They can give paintings a hologram feeling, showing up in direct light, but hiding themselves when seen from another angle! Also note “color” is spelled “colour” in Canada, I know it is weird to some of you.

These are my most recent works from 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023, with descriptions below. Simply left click on an image to enlarge. Feel free to share and market this art.

The picture at the top of the blog is called “Paradise Sunset” (2014 // kept). It is on 16 x 12 inch canvas and took 42 hours of work. It depicts an Orca (killer whale) jumping out of the ocean, and a sunset and clouds behind an island with palm trees and waterfalls. The front part of the island is a cliff. I did not prime this canvas with an initial coat (Gesso) so it has a texture up close.

A YouTube video of some of my artworks accompanied by my improvisational electric piano. I hope you enjoy it. Please set settings at bottom right of the video to HD (High Definition) for best viewing experience. Also, you might want to set screen to full brightness. 🙂

All paintings on canvas or artist paper below are posted from most recent to least. Please enjoy the art!

Frederick Stadler Art Fred Starry Night of Rainbow Spirits Painting

“Starry Night of Rainbow Spirits” (2023v // kept)

Another painting inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s “Starry Night”. I tried to copy his style, but with watercolour pencils, and white and yellow acrylic paints (his were done in oil paints). This latest version is with added yellow paint. The painting was painted on 18 x 12 inch watercolour paper.

.

Frederick Stadler Art Fred Cathy Flower Maiden Painting

“Cathy Flower Maiden” (2022v // given away)

This is a portrait of Cathy Dziak, done in a similar style as “Fantasy of the Flower Maiden” (2017). Her hair is flower stems and to the left are 4 blue roses, to the right are 4 tulips. Her nose is made of 3 upside-down flowers. This painting was done with watercolour pencils (2020) on 12 x 18 inch watercolour paper. It was edited in 2022 to add the night effects, painted with black and white acrylic paints.

.

Frederick Stadler Art Fred Moon Over Africa Painting 2021

“Moon Over Africa” (2021v // kept)

At night a moon reminds us that the way home is lit. This painting depicts our moon over the Earth, with a bit of colour added! To get the effect of the dark side of the moon, I painted it using a wet black watercolour pencil and then, after partial drying, I covered it with a paper towel to soak up paint water. A tribute to Black Lives everywhere. The original 2020 version was painted 3 days after the passing of George Floyd. This version has been modified. I covered the moon and Earth with a “clear tar gel” in order to protect the watercolour pencil paint. This was painted on 14 x 18 inch canvas with black and white acrylic paints and watercolour pencils.

Frederick Stadler Art Fred A Dolphins Kiss Painting

“A Dolphin’s Kiss” (2021v // kept)

Sea meets land. Day meets night. A dolphin meets a Pegasus. It’s a Fred-aphine Wall! Inspired by Josephine Wall’s beautiful painting “Magical Meeting” from which the theme is borrowed. Riding on the dolphin is a sleeping girl in a blue dress. Flying fish in the air above meet up with birds and chatter. One might also see a coral reef and treasure chest in the water, and a pine forest with mountains behind it, on land. This was painted with watercolour pencils, and black and white acrylic paints on 18 x 12 inch watercolour paper. Special thanks to Jo.

.

Frederick Stadler Art Fred The Living Galaxy Painting

“The Living Galaxy” (2021v // kept)

This is an updated version of my older 2014 painting by the same name. I had decided to splatter stars over it and make it more resemble a galaxy, rather than an abstract. You can still view the 2014 version in that section. This was painted on 14 x 11 inch artist paper with acrylic paints.

.

Frederick Stadler Art Fred Slovakia Painting

“Slovakia” (2020 // kept)

This painting based on a photo depicts a sunset from Slovakia. The blue areas in the foreground are meant to be shadows of rocks and rocky terrain. This was a bit tricky to do, and I gave it my best effort. It was painted on 18 x 12 inch watercolour paper with watercolour pencils and white acrylic paint.

.

Frederick Stadler Art Fred The Land Has Eyes Painting

“The Land Has Eyes” (2020 // given away)

The land lives in our spirits. This painting depicts teepees which are tents made of skin, cloth or canvas on a frame of poles used by the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas, among others. The painting symbolizes a connection to the land, personified. This was painted on 18 x 12 inch watercolour paper with watercolour pencils, and black and white acrylic paint.

.

Frederick Stadler Art Fred Chronosphere Painting

“Chronosphere” (2020 // kept)

“Chronos” is an ancient Greek word for “chronological time”. This is a depiction of a time sphere, or a “Chronosphere”, in outer-space. It was painted on 18 x 12 inch watercolour paper with watercolour pencils, and black and white acrylic paints.

.

Frederick Stadler Art Fred Beaver Abstract Painting

“Beaver Abstract” (2020 // sold for $50)

What could be more Canadian than a beaver and ice blocks? This depicts an abstract of a beaver and a beaver dam surrounded by abstract ice blocks. This was painted with watercolour pencils on 18 x 12 inch watercolour paper.

.

Frederick Stadler Art Fred Warpstar Galaxy Painting

“Warpstar Galaxy” (2020 // kept)

A galaxy in rainbows. A colourful abstract. This was painted on 18 x 12 inch watercolour paper with watercolour pencils and white acrylic paint.

.

Frederick Stadler Art Macrame Painting

“MacramĂ© Painting” collaboration with ? (2021 // kept)

This is a piece of MacramĂ© given to me by a friend. I decided to paint it with acrylic paints, and make it a collaboration between myself and the unnamed artist. It resembles a woman in the center with the sun and clouds. It also resembles a face, maybe even a “YakramĂ©”. A special thanks to my friend.

  1. Hi Fred,
the inspiration I obtain from your expression is meditative. My canvas is:- I share through advocating for social justice. Esther & I delivered a deputation at City Hall before the budget committee, appealing for more supportive housing for people with mental health & addiction issues.
